A new Publix opened Thursday in a booming part of West Boca — walking distance from where homebuilder GL Homes is underway with plans to build nearly 1,000 homes.
The new Publix, at 19595 S. State Rd. 7, opened at The Greens shopping plaza, drawing a large number of customers.
“We are excited to welcome customers to their new Publix,” Lindsey Willis, Publix media relations manager, said in a statement. “We look forward to introducing them to an array of new offerings and providing them with the service and quality products they know and love.”
The new supermarket is located near a litany of neighborhoods, including Boca Isles North, Century Village at Boca Raton and Lakes at Boca Raton Clubhouse.
It’s also about a mile north of a 260-acre parcel where an upcoming GL Homes community, Lotus Edge, has been under construction, near Olympic Heights High School in West Boca.
More than 600 homes are planned in the community, which is bordered to the west by State Road 7 and bordered to the east by Lyons Road. A roadside display states, “Lotus Edge, Models now open, Luxury Residences, From $1.5M – $3M.”
In addition, GL Homes during a county zoning hearing last year received approval to move forward with plans to develop 322 more luxury homes right next to it, on land east of Lyons. When build-out is complete, GL Homes will have brought nearly 1,000 homes on either side of Lyons.

The community also contains many schools, such as West Boca Raton Community High School, Sunrise Park Elementary School and Eagles Landing Middle School.
On Thursday afternoon, the new Publix’s parking lot was so full, some customers turned to parking on a grassy swale farther away. One customer, Karen Klein, of West Boca, managed to find a parking spot. Walking back to her car with a shopping cart full of groceries, she was pleased with the new store’s modern look.
“It’s so bright and clean in there,” she said.
She said she realized the new Publix would grow in demand once many more residents move into the new communities currently under construction. But that’s to be expected across the region, she noted. She normally shops at a Publix farther north, at 9720 Clint Moore Road, and that store happens to be right next to another planned new community, also currently under construction.
“You can expect it’ll be a whole lot more crowded,” she figured.

Grocery stores aplenty
Another Publix at Westwinds of Boca sits almost a mile and a half south of the new Publix at the Greens.
Also nearby are other grocery stores such as The Fresh Market, Sprouts and the newly opened Whole Foods, giving residents a number of options.
There are more than 10 Publix supermarkets in the greater Boca Raton area and even more across South Florida.
The Greens plaza also has other tenants including Subway, Crossfit at West Boca, Pinch-a-Penny, a car rental place and Stella’s Pizzeria.
