Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume says the Coalition’s tax offset is an “incentive” to allow first-home buyers to get into the market.
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has announced a Coalition government will allow first-home buyers of newly built homes to deduct their mortgage’s interest payments from their taxable income.
“We want new home buyers in the market, but we also want them to build new homes because this is a supply-side measure above and beyond anything else,” Ms Hume said.
“We think that it’s going to turbocharge new home builds, and so does industry.”
